Custom LASIK

Custom LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) is a technologically advanced form of conventional LASIK that determines unique individual visual distortion information on each patient. This information is then used to guide the laser during the LASIK procedure. This means that each patient may get treated for more than the usual problems of myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism (irregularly shaped eye which causes blurred or double vision). Therefore, even clearer vision can result.

The idea with custom LASIK is similar to a custom-made suit compared to an off-the-rack suit. The custom suit is tailored to your exact size to give you an exact fit. Custom LASIK is tailored to your unique vision correction needs to give you custom vision correction.

What is Low Vision?

Low vision is when people have so much vision loss that their vision is impaired. Glasses, contacts, medicines, and surgery are not enough to correct low vision.

Examples of low vision impairments are partial sight, tunnel vision, blind spots, legal blindness, and total blindness. These vision impairments may be moderate or severe, depending on how much they affect your everyday activities like driving, reading, or watching TV.

Who Needs Bioptics?

People who need bioptics are usually people who have severe vision errors. One vision correction procedure will correct some of the error but not all of it. Bioptics is a technique which gives you a way to get possible treatment to correct most, if not all, of your vision.

Bioptics are used when neither procedure that you receive will, by itself, give you complete vision correction. Bioptics uses two vision correction procedures to give you your best possible vision. That's why bioptics is an exciting new development in vision correction procedures for people who need extreme vision correction!

What Are Bioptics?

Bioptics means two vision correction treatments. In other words your doctor will combine two types of procedures to achieve your total vision correction result. Usually bioptics consists of a lens replacement procedure followed by a laser vision correction treatment on your cornea.

For example, you might get intraocular lenses (IOLs) put in you eye in place of your cataract-affected natural lenses. Then, in order to fine-tune your vision, you might undergo a LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) laser vision correction procedure.

"My vision is actually
better than 20 20"

"It was like a miracle - when I left Dr. Davidorf's office the day of my surgery, I could see right away. When I woke up the next morning I could see the alarm clock. While travelling with my band in Tokyo I spotted a McDonald's sign from a mile away. Our tour manager was very impressed. My vision is actually better than 20 20."
