Murtaza Saifee, MD

Ophthalmologist

Murtaza Saifee, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery, comprehensive ophthalmology, and glaucoma care at Davidorf Eye Group in Los Angeles, California.

As a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist, Dr. Saifee provides the full spectrum of glaucoma care, from advanced medical management to minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and complex filtration surgeries such as glaucoma drainage device implantation. Dr Saifee is also highly skilled in cataract surgery, offering the latest intraocular lens technology — including multifocal, extended depth of focus, and light-adjustable lenses — to help patients achieve their best possible vision with reduced dependence on spectacles. His unique combination of skills allows him to manage complex cases where cataract and glaucoma overlap, delivering safe, personalized, and highly effective outcomes.

Dr. Saifee is a native of the San Fernando Valley, born and raised in Tarzana. He earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, where he focused on microelectronic device design and development, before completing his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. He went on to complete both residency and glaucoma fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco — one of the top ophthalmology training programs in the nation — where he developed advanced surgical expertise in cataract and glaucoma procedures.

An active contributor to ophthalmic research, Dr. Saifee applies his engineering background to improve diagnostic accuracy and surgical planning in ophthalmology. He developed the hvf_extraction_script, an open-source program now used worldwide to extract and analyze data from visual field reports for glaucoma research. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at national and international conferences, and recognized with the Garcia/Hogan Award for best clinical research during his training at UCSF.

Dr. Saifee’s philosophy of care centers on patient education and engagement. He believes every patient should have the opportunity to fully understand their eye health and treatment options, empowering them to make informed decisions. Recognizing that vision problems can cause significant stress and anxiety, he is committed to creating a comfortable, reassuring environment where patients feel at ease. He works closely with each individual to develop a personalized treatment plan that optimizes their vision and overall health while honoring their values and lifestyle.

Giving back to the community is a core part of Dr. Saifee’s practice. He frequently provides care for underserved and uninsured patients, offering second opinions for complex eye problems and helping them access the treatments they need. He is also committed to mentoring aspiring healthcare professionals, guiding many young students on their path toward careers in medicine.

Fluent in English, Spanish, and Gujarati, Dr. Saifee is committed to providing compassionate, personalized care to all patients under his care. After completing his training, he returned to the San Fernando Valley, where he lives with his wife and two daughter, to serve the community where he grew up.
