Meet Dr. Murtaza Saifee

Dr. Murtaza Saifee is the newest addition to our group. Dr. Saifee is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and comprehensive ophthalmologist, specializing in medical and surgical management of glaucoma.

Dr. Saifee is a native to the San Fernando Valley, born and raised in Tarzana. He received his undergraduate degree at the California Institute of Technology in electrical engineering, focusing on embedded systems. He then went on to receive his medical school education at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.

He completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco, where he developed expertise in complex cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma procedures, and incisional glaucoma surgeries including trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage implantation.

Dr. Saifee is active in ophthalmology and glaucoma research, leveraging his engineering background to optimize how ophthalmology testing data is processed and analyzed. He developed the hvf_extraction_script, a computer program to help extract data from ophthalmology visual field reports; he released this program as open-source for free use in the medical community, where it is used throughout the world for ophthalmology research. In addition, Dr. Saifee has contributed his engineering background to several ophthalmology research studies examining the utility of ancillary testing in the diagnosis of glaucoma conditions and how glaucoma patients respond to surgical treatments. He was awarded the Garcia/Hogan award for best clinical research during his residency training at the University of California, San Francisco.

After completing his training, he has moved back to the San Fernando Valley area with his wife and daughter. He is eager to help treat ophthalmology patients in his hometown. He is fluent in English, Spanish and Gujrati.
